Walk Below the City

Did you know that 20 feet below Houston’s downtown streets there is an underground system of tunnels that stretches more than 6 miles long?  It began as a tunnel between two downtown movie theaters but now includes restaurants and shops and connects 95 city blocks!

For this date you are going to explore down under!  This will have to be a day date because the tunnels are only open Monday through Friday from 6 am to 6:30 pm.  So plan to have some lunch while there.

Be sure to look at the map – you can find it here – because the only way to access the tunnels directly is from the Wells Fargo Plaza or the McKinney Garage on Main.  Otherwise you must enter from inside the office buildings.

Relationship Reconnection Tip:

Make sure you hold hands while exploring.  Walk slow and window shop. Pretend like it is 30 years in the future and underground cities are the norm.  If you could design an underground city what would it look like?  What amenities would it have?  Dream big!  Have fun planning the city of the future.
