Have you ever heard about people using a stress
ball? Do you like to fidget or move your hands around while you talk about
stuff? I do, and it drives my husband crazy… But my twitchy behavior has led
you to a healthy date idea! Sometimes it’s important to talk about some big
stuff, but I want you to direct the stress or intensity of the conversation
into Play-dough rather than at each other. If there is something big in your
life that needs to be talked about, then take the recipe below and have a
little fun making playdough together. Don’t bring up the big subject until you
each have a big ball of flexible stress relief to mess with.
When you
throw the playdough away, plan to be done talking about the issue for the evening.
Even if you didn’t come to a conclusion in the discussion, set another time to
pick the conversation back up. But leave the conversation alone after you put
the playdough down. Sometimes we all just need to take a step back and have a
break from the intense decisions in our life. You’ll be surprised how relieving
it can be to have a physically representation that the conversation is over for
the evening when you’re done.
Play-dough recipe:
½ cup flour (if it’s sticky still you can add up
to another ½ cup)
½ cup of salt
1 package kool-aid (any flavor)
2 tsp cream of tartar
1 tbsp oil
1 cup boiling water
Mix dry ingredients, then add water and oil
(Tip, if you don’t have colored drink mix, I just
used a tablespoon of sugar and mixed food coloring into it).
