Dr. John Gottman says that one of the six most common areas
of marital conflict is money. (www.gottmanblog.com) Do you and your
spouse have differing views about money?
Do you have a budget? Do you
understand budgeting? Would you like to
do better with this area of your marriage?
Leisure
Learning Unlimited, Inc. offers all kinds of money classes that you can
take. On Tuesday, November 10th
from 7-9 pm they are offering a Budgeting Made Simple class. For $45 you and your spouse can learn to take
control of your finances. This class is
held in the Greenway Plaza Area: Richmond/Kirby. It is an investment in your time that I’m
sure will pay you great dividends.
This organization also offers many other classes, some of
those online. One that is online is Keys
to Successful Money Management. I would
encourage you to sign up for at least one of the offered classes and strengthen
this aspect of your marriage so that it doesn’t become a conflict.
Relationship Reconnection Tip:
Prior to attending the class, sit down together and come up
with a list of questions that you would like to have answered during your class
time. Where are your strengths when it
comes to financial matters? Where are
your weaknesses? How can you best help
each other with the goals you have regarding finances. Make a commitment that if this discussion
creates anxiety in either of you, you will take a break and relax before
continuing. This should be a night where
you commit to doing a little better.
Find something you would like to save for in the future. That is sure to help as you have a common
goal.
