77377 Repair is the Key to Marital Success!

Repair something around the house that you’ve been putting off for far too long. Maybe the fence needs repainting, the kitchen sink drips, the gutters need a cleaning, or the glider chair squeaks. Use this as an opportunity to work on it together. This might not sound like the relaxing Friday night date you are looking forward to but if you have been short on time these days, why not have a date and get something done at the same time? Besides, sometimes it's easier to talk when you are working together.

Determine the repair/ maintenance project you want to work on and then gather the tools you will need. Lowe’s website has a do it yourself “repair and maintain” section which you can find here. Make sure that you both have something to do during the project, even if one of you is better at the project than the other, you both should be involved.

Did you know that "repair during and after a fight is key to marital success"? (Gottman Video). Repair attempts are anything you do to lighten the mood, ease the tension, or cool the conflict.

answering this questionnaire, and looking through this list of suggestions.

On your date, talk about how well you do with repair attempts. Do your arguments get out of control? Do you take a break if the situation gets too heated? Do you use any of the suggested repair attempts? What is the best way for you to cool down? Talk about some ways you use repair attempts in your marriage. Or if you don't use any, talk about a few that you think would work for you.
