77086 Plant a Reminder to Nourish your Marriage

When life gets busy it can be easy to neglect your marriage and focus on other priorities. Sometimes you need a reminder to focus on your spouse and show how much you love them. Regular date nights are a great way to do this by keeping connected. It’s also good to have some type of object lying around that reminds you to nurture your marriage. We all need reminders. Consider making the “reminder object” something permanent.

One idea is to plant a tree in your yard together. Tell each other that it symbolizes your relationship and is a reminder that, like the tree, your marriage needs constant nourishment.  If the tree is getting little water, the leaves will turn brown and wilt. Or if it’s not getting enough light, it will stop growing. It is the same for your marriage. If you don’t put attention and care into your relationship, you will grow apart.

It’s always fun to watch the tree grow over the years and to have that constant reminder that your love is growing stronger as well.

Spring is here and it’s a great time to plant a tree.  Start this date by going to RCW Nurseries, Inc. They have a great selection of plants, and lots of friendly help. Pick out a tree that will do well in your yard. Go home and plant it together. Talk about what it means to nurture your marriage. What do you do to constantly nurture your relationship? What can you do to make these things a priority in your life?

It's time to put down your phone, tablet, laptop, stop looking at the TV, and get outside with your spouse!  The Lake Houston Wilderness Park is over 4,000 acres of beautiful woods, lakes, and wildlife where you can enjoy camping, water activities, and much more with your husband or wife!  Being outside experiencing the beauty of nature, "disconnected" from your electronics can really bring spouses closer together and give them time to reconnect.

77066: A Competitive Service Date

Serving your spouse is always a good idea. I would hope that we all know that the more we serve someone the closer and more love we will feel towards them. Although serving your spouse is important, it can at times be hard to distinguish the areas they really want you to serve them in. So why not use a fun date night to come up with ideas?

Choose your favorite game, it can be a card game, an athletic/active game, or even a video game that you can play together. Any sort of game that allows for one winner between the two of you. Once you have both agreed upon a game, you will now think of three wishes, or things you would like your spouse to do for you. Try to keep them service related, and stay away from anything of monetary value.

Now you can begin your game! With each round you will each wager one of your three wishes. Winner takes the spoils and will get their wish granted within the next week and the other will lose their wish. Continue the rounds until you have both wagered all three of your wishes.

**My husband and I play this game weekly and LOVE it!

77069 Emotional Intelligence

How intelligent are you? We give a lot of credit to those that are smart with money, school, or on the street. But what about emotional intelligence? Do you know how to deal with your feelings?

Emotional Intelligence is equally as important. This article teaches four attributes of emotional intelligence:

  • Self-awareness-You recognize your own emotions and how they affect your thoughts and behavior, know your strengths and weaknesses, and have self-confidence.
  • Self-management-You're able to control impulsive feelings and behaviors, manage your emotions in healthy ways, take initiative, follow through on commitments, and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Social awareness-You can understand the emotions, needs, and concerns of other people, pick up on emotional cues, feel comfortable socially, and recognize the power dynamics in a group or organization.
  • Relationship management-You know how to develop and maintain good relationships, communicate clearly, inspire and influence others, work well in a team, and manage conflict.

Emotional Intelligence is often taught at businesses, but even more important than your relationships with your coworkers, is the relationship with your spouse.

For your date, get away for a night:

77069 Service Without Keeping Score

Why do you serve your spouse?
…So they will serve you back?

…or do you do it because you love them?

“Sacrifice may sound awful, but it is one of the purest ways to show love to someone. Saying “I love you” is good, and necessary; but, giving of yourself, time after time, is proof that you really mean what you say.”

For your date, try out dance together!
